'Conversation No. 10'

This June Courtesy of the Artist will showcase Jane Frances Reilly’s first solo exhibition, Conversation No. 10.

The work in this exhibition is a quiet reflection of Jane’s memories of childhood, particularly those of her large family and their chaotic daily lives of constant comings and goings.

"This body of work comes together years apart, pots unfinished, stored in the garage, sitting, quietly waiting. Clay and copper meet in vessels that speak of my life lived and conversations had between family and friends…”

Through drawing and painting, Jane plays heavily with the idea of mark marking and treats her marks as if they are her words. Each line, scratch and imprint stems from Jane’s daily observations of marks left by generations of people across the world.

“Cracks form, moss grows, paint drips, concrete splits, streaks of natural and human graffiti, both still and transient. These marks belong to all of us, they are accidental and they are all a secret. We all leave some sort of mark in this life and we are all connected by the footpaths we travel on and the roads we use. This body of work holds secrets of where I have come from and whisper silent stories to each other.”

After completing a Diploma of ceramics in 1996, Jane Reilly went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in ceramics at The Victorian College of the Arts. In 2014, Jane completed an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery at NMIT.
