'The Battle for Beauty' by Philip Sajet
This July, the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia (JMGA) will hold its biennial conference and Courtesy of the Artist is pleased to showcase the work of internationally renowned Dutch Contemporary Jewellery Artist, Philip Sajet.
A Master Goldsmith and Artist, Sajet has exhibited consistently since 1986 and has held over 40 solo exhibitions in his illustrious career to date.
Sajet's work is held in numerous and prestigious public collections including: The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim and our own Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.
In The Battle for Beauty, Sajet explores the conferences theme of Edges, Borders and Gaps in a series of rings, neckpieces and brooches.
In his jewellery, Sajet explores the classic archetypes of jewellery design. His choice in materials creates a rich and wonderful pallete that often pairs the classic with the unexpected.
These bold yet elegant compositions offer surprise and whimsy. A poetic execution of head, heart and hand with each piece being masterfully crafted with technical rigour.
This is classical contemporary jewellery, thoughtfully made to be worn proudly.
