#ANTSinSYDNEY by Lorraine Loots
This April, South African artist Lorraine Loots will be bringing her much anticipated exhibition #ANTSinSYDNEY to Courtesy of the Artist Loft in the Strand Arcade.
Based on the city, landscapes and icons of Sydney, this exhibition is a continuation of Lorraine’s widely popular miniature painting project where each artwork is hand painted in fine detail in tiny 3cm wide circles. This time though, the subject matter is our home town, Sydney!
Back in 2013, the ‘Painting for Ants’ project saw Lorraine commit to creating one miniature painting a day for 365 days, with each taking anywhere from 3 to 6 hours to complete.
After its success, Lorraine decided to do it again but this time the subject matter was her much loved home city of Cape Town. Over the years, Lorraine has travelled the world and painted #ANTSinLA, #ANTSinCHIGACO and most recently #ANTSinSINGAPORE with each exhibition showcasing a collection of original paintings based entirely on the city the exhibition is taking place in. These original paintings were showcased alongside Lorraine’s travelling exhibition: ‘Potluck 100’ – a collection of 100 daily themed miniatures painted over a period of 25 weeks.
#ANTSinSYDNEY will open on Thursday April 19th 2018 from 6pm - 8pm at Courtesy of the Artist Loft, Level 4, The Strand Arcade, 412 - 414 George Street, Sydney, Australia.
RSVP to opening night here.
For those of you unable to attend opening night, the exhibition will be open until May 6th 2018 on Mondays - Fridays from 10am - 5:30pm and Saturdays from 10am - 4pm.
Lorraine will be joining us for the official opening and during her stay will host a number of miniature workshops, where participants will be guided through her process as well as paint their own miniature.
Workshop details are coming soon, but in the meantime register your interest by emailing email@example.com.
